Mid Week Musings

The idea to put up the recipes on the blog looks to be quite a success!!! I think will add one recipe every week as a ritual from now onwards. These will mostly be recipes that ma has been cooking every day, regular day-day simple Bengali stuff. But that has to wait till weekend definitely :).

Last Saturday, turned out to be again another shocking one characterized by series of bomb blasts in Delhi in evening. It is again one of those mind-numbing effects - when we realize that we are living on the edge. These are busy markets, and the probability of many of us being in one of them on a Saturday evening in very very high. In fact quite a few of our acquaintances have been very near to either one or other of the blast sites on the ill fated day. It just reinforces the fact that there is indeed a very very fine line between life and death....One moment you are walking down a pavement enjoying a relaxing session of some real and some window shopping and the next moment you don't know what has stuck you.....Its a really really scary thought, and a very very real fear for all of us living in any major Indian city.

2 years back, it was even more heart wrenching experience to be in a city which was ravaged by serial blasts in trains - the infamous Mumbai serial blasts. There was fear and misery all around, and mostly sheer helplessness...

2 years and multiple blasts in many cities later, we still fare no better as a nation. Why do we allow ourselves to go through this every time and then boast of the fact that we are a "very positive nation", "we don't allow the perpetrators of terror to spread panic", "we return to normalcy very fast" and all such blah blah blah....The matter of the fact is the those who have actually lost family members, never actually recover from it.....The rest of us have become too selfish and insensitive, and continue to live our normal life behaving as if nothing has happened....Human life is cheap in the second most populous country in the world........and we simply don't care about what happens to others .....To top it all we have a governing system whose only connections with its citizens is to collect taxes and collect votes....What about the concept of security? Well we have enough civilian security staff and also robust intelligence but unfortunately it is only devoted to safety of the bevy of people in so called "public life" which includes ministers (Central/state), MLAs, MPs, opposition leaders, sundry politicians starting from village to block to district to state level, and yes all the corresponding "ex" es in all these categories...

Only life of common man has no value, no security - physical or social as far as state in concerned....But in spite of all this, one thing remains constant - deduction of 33% of my hard earned salary income tax every month !!!

This is really an amazing country...........
